The Jewel of Oakland
Lake Merritt is a large tidal lagoon located in the center of Oakland, California, United States. It is situated between the neighborhoods of Adams Point to the east, and Lakeside to the west. The lake is surrounded by a 3.4-mile shoreline park, which includes jogging paths, picnic areas, playgrounds, gardens, and the Lakeside Park and Garden Center.
Lake Merritt is the oldest designated wildlife refuge in the United States, and it is home to a variety of bird species, including the iconic American white pelican, Canada goose, and great egret. In addition to its natural beauty, the lake also features several attractions, such as the Rotary Nature Center, the Lake Merritt Boating Center, the Lake Merritt Bonsai Garden, and the Children's Fairyland amusement park.
Unfortunately, the lake has been facing several environmental issues, including algae blooms and pollution. The pollution and algae blooms have been damaging the ecosystem of Lake Merritt and harming the local wildlife. The community has been working to address these issues by implementing various measures, such as increasing the use of natural treatments, improving stormwater management, and reducing the use of harmful chemicals in the area. Despite these efforts, there is still much work to be done to restore the health of the lake and its ecosystem.
The Strategy
Something Stinks
This is something the residents of Oakland cannot ignore! This Lake was something that the city took pride in for its natural beauty and its age.
It's time to remind people that they have a responsibility to preserve the local environment and take pride in the Jewel of Oakland.
